Listen to the podcast w/ Cavin Costello of The Ranch Mine, HERE
I first learned about The Ranch Mine through seeing them pop up in my Instagram feed and when one of the firm owners was a guest on Context & Clarity which was part of the EntreArchitect group and was playing every day with the wonderful hosts, Jeff Echols and Katherine McPhail during Covid. It was everyone's saving grace in aworld in lockdown.
Did we forget about these times??? If anyone needs a reminder or if anyone wants to listen to the myriad of episodes that I did during that time when the podcast went from an air time of the average commute (15 minutes) to an hour plus because let's face it.... we all were lonely, in spite of having a lot of people stuck in our houses for days.... months... years...
One of the things that I remember is part of The Ranch Mine's marketing and business plan which comes from the team of Cavin Costello who is an architect and his wife Claire who is from a business and marketing background and they started the Ranch Mine.
I ran into Cavin in person when I was invited to a dwell magazine and Marvin Window and Doors event at a home that was featured in the magazine and here some photos that I took. And after meeting someone IRL I like to ask them if they are interested in being a guest on the podcast. And he said yes, and here it is:
Cavin Costello is the co-founder of The Ranch Mine, an architecture firm based in Phoenix, Arizona, best known for modern homes that connect people to nature and each other. Since 2010, Cavin, a past recipient of the AIA’s “Future of Architecture” award, has led the design of over 250 projects across four continents, earning international recognition and national awards for his work that reimagines what it means to live well in dynamic natural environments.
In 2009, Cavin Costello received his Master of Architecture degree and made the drive to Phoenix, Arizona sight unseen, inspired by the complexities and opportunities to be had in the American Southwest. He had not yet been a full day in Phoenix when he met Claire, a Phoenix native looking to make the most of her recent move back home. The two quickly bonded over their ideals of the built environment, how to improve upon it and its ability to influence. Not settling for a hard hit economy to dictate their next move, the duo decided to act. So, they bought a fixer upper and experienced first hand the trials and tribulations of a major renovation. This renovation landed on the front page of the newspaper, propelling The Ranch Mine into the local spotlight and capturing the attention of trailblazing homeowners and forward-thinking developers, sparking the journey to where we are today.
