Natalia and I talked a lot about architecture and spaces in the short amount of time that I had that morning as my sons and I were packing up the hotel room and were going to stop by my parent's house before we left for the drive to the Tulsa airport (which I will show some photos from the trip following all of the ones that she so kindly sent me.

From her first recollections of experiencing architecture: the North Park Mall in Dallas which also reminded me of the South Hills Village Mall that I used to go to way back in the 60's to 80's.

And DUST was also part of the Porch Exhibit at the Venice Biennale which was organized by architects from the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Crystal Bridges which is basically the Walton Family and I have been to Crystal Bridges and enjoyed the art museum and I have known several other architects who have exhibited in the Porch exhibit, which I feel if you are going to be exhibited there, it is a great excuse to actually go to Venice Italy and see the exhibit! I mean that is what I would do.

As for the porch idea, and of course porches are big in that area where the Fay Jones School is and where Crystal Bridges is and of course the Walton Family (Walmart) and you know...... I think that porches are an element of a single family home and not everyone has a single family home. So in that way, I liked architect David Baker's display and his concepts for the exhibit. I mean, I kindof went over this in an article that I was quoted in but also basically told the writer of the article when she had asked me (I was contacted because I was on the board of the AIA CRAN) was about people and if they used porches more or were asking for porches to be built on their houses during covid, I said, "No, it isn't really about a porch, per se, it's about the  interstitial space, the space between your house (private) and the street (public) and a porch is an old concept really", (I had a porch on three old houses where I grew up in Pittsburgh, but the last house we lived in there was one on the side, not the front because it was a brick tudor and that was the style.

But here is the link to that article:
