Michael Malinowski will be the moderator of Panel 3: Implementation: New Production, Delivery & Technology in the Housing Forum.


Michael Malinowski FAIA has provided historic adaptive re-use, urban infill, single and multifamily residential, affordable housing, and commercial revitalization design solutions for 40 years as Principal of Applied Architecture, Sacramento CA.  Several of Mike’s projects have been cited as “city shaping,” including the Warehouse Artist Lofts (2015, Sacramento historic adaptive mixed use), Galt Place (2011, urban infill wood podium design), Globe Mill (2008, rebirth of an abandoned mill and silo complex), and Hotel Stockton (2006, historic adaptive reuse).  Mike has also worked with over 2,000 families in shaping sustainable, functional, and inspiring living environments.

An active AIA member for 40 years, Mike was 2016 President of 11,000 member AIA California, the AIA Board (2012-2014), AIA Code and Standards (2014-2017), and AIA Task Forces including Digital Transformation and Architect Credentialing.  Mike is currently spearheading the launch of the California Accessory Dwelling Resource Center, serving on the International Existing Building Code Development Committee; the AIA Center for Civic Leadership, as AIA Blueprint for Better Champion, and various AIA Committees including COTE, Citizen Architect and Advocacy. 


At his local component Mike founded the Code Conversation Program over 14 years ago, forging links between design and code professionals.  Mike led the development of the innovative PASS Permit Streamlining Program in 2014, currently used by 18 cities and counties in California, an area of over 2.6 million people. Mike created the website PermitStreamline.Com in 2012 to share best practices in Permit Streamlining from around the country and in 2015 he founded the Streamline Institute,a nonprofit devoted to shaping more efficient and effective regulatory processes, where he currently serves as President.
