#a19 #aiacon19 AIA Conference 2019: "day one." Interview with Britt Lindberg, AIA

Some of us still need a paper copy
and a bag and the app...

There;s a;ways a ton to do at these conferences and my kids think that architects just go to these things to socialize, (ie to younger people: PARTY)  But they soon realized that it is a lot of work and a lot of non-stop work, especially when you are producing work from the work.  Or as some people in the Blogger Biz call it, "a deliverable" or what are you going to produce from the conference.  I produce this blog.

So, on the first official day of the AIA Conference 2019, as I am the Chair of the CRAN Knowledge Community for the AIA San Diego and Palomar Chapters and I also do custom residential. I headed over to the Las Vegas Convention Center to cover some sessions on CRAN and other ones.

The first one was CRAN: The Virtual Office and it was presented by Jennifer Kretschmer, AIA (I apologize for misspelling her name in an Instagram story), It was a packed room and that was great to see!

It was also great to see that so many people are interested in working with people who don't have employees in their space or in their home office.  As Jennifer says here,

Britt is a Senior Associate and Project Architect working on commercial interior and new construction projects at Gensler, in their San Jose, CA, office. She enjoys working with technology clients on innovative, collaborative workspaces that inspire their success, and is also a past president at AIA California and AIA Silicon Valley. She is running this year as an AIA National Board At-Large Director, with a focus on promoting the value of design; empowering all AIA members; and strengthening all architects' influence in service to society.

PS Britt Lindberg was elected to the position and she is now the AIA National Board At-Large Director

Sarah and Lauren of Vectorworks

There's a lot of new tech for architects and the building trades and industries going on at this conference and I wish that my tech knowledge could keep up. And like Architecture the relationship between the Tech Industry and Women has a lot to improve, but this company, Vectorworks can put their money where their mouth is as far as women who are in the field of architecture software development and sales.  Here's a great video clip of Architect-trained Sarah from Vectorworks, Inc.

I am usually sent emails from different product and software reps as I am on a list fo rthe press and I try and go by every booth that has requested an interview.. However, this year there were a lot of requsts adn I didn't get by all of the booths and my focus was on Architecture software as I didn't get to any last year and I am thinking of moving into the twenty-first century.

But I did manAge to see several different product reps and  I put them in the first blog and I have several in this one and the next few.

So, I met with Todd Noe of Maiden Wine Room Doors and I was especially intrigued by
1) It is a San Diego based company that fabricates and can install ts own product, be it wine storage doors or other metal fabrication like steel pivot doors which are really nice and cantilevered stairs.
2) I sat down and met with him in the Press Room and he then sent me a handwritten card thanking me for my time, which I really need to learn how to do that in a more timely fashion for all of the people who were in the Housing Forum....
3) I learned that the owner of a big San Diego Brewing Company has an extensive wine collection.

And while we were in the Press Room, I also got to see my favorite architectural magazine publisher, Alex Bachrach, always a joy to connect with someone who was in Pittsburgh for a brief period and then also left ;) .

BTW, did you know that these first emojis were "invented" at Carnegie Mellon University?

Thank you to Architectural Record for providing their magazines and sponsorship to the architectural profession and check out the Bauhaus 100 in June's issue!!!
