Notes on #WFH #Archimom Health Care Design & an Interview w/ Evelyn Warner, AIA

Today is Memorial Day (well, it's the day after...) (which became the 3 weeks after i was going to post... and after my husband came home and I got some work that came through...) and though this is what my Covid-19 Holiday looks like:

Please don't think that you have to work on this holiday (though there are a lot of architects who are...)

So here are some appetizers and things that can give you easy insight into a lot of different easy meals that you can look at these websites or if you are in the area, that you can take advantage of, or keep the small business that you have in your area going.

Here is this amazing architect, Evelyn Warner, who I know through my husband, Steven O'Leary, who is also an architect when he worked at HMC Architects in San Diego, CA and who then went to work at NAV/FAC SW (Navy Facilities: Southwest).  So not only is she a great architect specializing in Health Care and Earthquakes, she has been posting every night what she is making for dinner and a wine pairing with it, which has been a delight for the eyes, as far as I am concerned.

Shelter in place Day 1 Dinner- grilled portobello with spinach and pesto, sage and butter mezzi rigatoni (Assenti's Pasta), Pinot Gris (Altipiano Winery)

Shelter in Place dinner day 23 - gorgonzola ravioli ( Assenti's Pasta) with tomato sauce and fresh sage, green beans with lemon and thyme, 2013 Red Blend ( Milagro). Kinda simple, but works for a rainy evening. Maybe pizza tomorrow night.

Shelter in Place dinner day 30 - this may be "dinner", brie, goat cheese, caponatina ( Assenti's Pasta) walnuts and dried cherries with an awesome 2017 Petit Sirah (Altipiano Winery).

Shelter in Place dinner day 67 - , this afternoon was a few leftover Marry Me Meatballs, Red Pepper Gallette, Mufaletta spread ( Assentis Pasta), cheese and crackers and fruit. It all went well with my Mouvedre (Domaine Artefact).

I think that she has been pretty consistent with the posts, as in she hasn't gone from a gourmet dinner of salmon and basil mashed potatoes to peanut butter on a tortilla because you are out of bread and the thought of standing in line for 30 minutes and going into the store causes you anxiety but you can't bring yourself to pay for instacartgrubhububereatsamazonprime services.

She also has some great wines from a local vineyard, Domaine Artifact which my daughter had chosen as a very instagrammable winery to celebrate her 25th birthday at.  She just moved out so I doubt that I will be attending this year's celebration but probably not offering to pay for it either ;)

Evelyn Warner and I met while my husband was working at HMC Architects in San Diego.  They were working on some health care projects and I never thought that I would have an interest or the knowledge until the last few years about health care architecture.  But now I do!  Listen as we talk about health care, #WFH, wine, and food....

I’m an Architect with a 30+ year career in Architectural Design and Construction, including nearly 10 years with NAVFAC SW.  I’ve worked on of some of the most complex project types in the industry and some of the largest
institutional projects in San Diego County, greater California, and Nevada:

 ·         Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake Earthquake Recovery Program, 2019-2024

·         Naval Base Coronado, Special Operations Forces, Coastal Campus, $750M, 1.5M s.f.

·         Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton Replacement Project, $450+M, 500,000 s.f., ARRA

·         California Prison Receivership Healthcare Project, $1.5+B, 3‐4 campuses

·         Veterans Administration Medical Center, Las Vegas, $600+M, approx. 500,000 s.f.

·         Palomar Hospital Replacement Project, $750+M, 500,000 s.f

I’ve worked as an Owner’s Representative, Construction Manager, Project Manager, Architect and Planner includes numerous Design‐Build Projects, General Acute Care Hospitals, Rehabilitation and Psychiatric Hospitals, extensive renovation and reuse within operating hospitals and facilities, and a Veterans Administration Medical Center.

My experience in the private sector includes participation on the “Co-opetition” for the

Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) team for the California Prison Healthcare Receivership Project using Design‐Build and LEAN Design and Construction concepts. The high security project was at the forefront of innovation and alternative project design and construction delivery processes.

Of the 10 years I’ve been with NAVFAC SW, I spent the past 3+ years supervising both multi- and single-discipline teams of Design Managers for NAVFAC SW and am currently the MILCON Program Design Manager for NAWS CL Earthquake Recovery Program.

I also have been seeing that during the #covid19 #WFH that there is more home cooked meals and gardening and going outside in your yard so I have some ideas that I have been looking at for some easy DIY projects for the house and the yard and the outdoor living room. Well, maybe I will add those later as my outdoor living room is a huge construction zone right now...

succulents are super easy and as
far as i am concerned you
should never have to buy them,
just ask a neighbor if you can trade

Citrus trees

get these corner pieces...

Add wood boards

Voila!  A raised bed, easiest i have seen!!!
Get your home compost going and garden!!!

Radishes from a small farm
on an IKEA dish towel
(they have some great textiles
that don't have drawings of
vegetables and fruits on them...)

Tulips that my daughter bought me
(a few weeks ago)
I LOVE FRESH FLOWERS!!!

The progress....

Yes, this is three weeks after
because we tore out the mosaic
after we put it in and it was
wet because it was falling...

So, best to you for now, stay safe, stay at home, when you can wear a mask and peace be with you...
