I had never met Rachel Green Rasmussen before but I had met her firm's principal, John Kane, several years ago now. I was chari of the AIA San Diego CRAN (Custom Residential Architects Network) and it was Awards Season and John was on the jury for the AIA San Diego Design Awards and as he announced that the next presenter was Michael Hottel, I approached the stage and walked up and he said "Michael Hottel" and I approached the microphone and said, "Hi, I'm Michele Hottel" which most of the people already knew but John was very apologetic and I said it was no big deal as being in a man's world, I have long been mistaken for a Michael because of one "L" at the building department many times. And so a year ago when I saw him at a talk at ASU, I asked him to be a guest on the podcast and he said, "I think you should interview Rachel" and I said, "Sure" and then when Rachel and I were both asked to exhibit at Taliesin West (well I was asked because I was the instigator of the Women in Architecture in Arizona exhibit). So when I was looking for a person to interview for Mother's Day, I thought that she would be perfect as she is an architect and a mother and I just found out that we both grew up in Pittsburgh, she from the North Hills and I from the South Hills so as a person close to me always used to say,

"It's always Pittsburgh...."

And here we go talking about Architecture, Motherhood, and Places in Pittsburgh (no sports venues!!)
