Nancy Weinman
of Weinman Architectural Services

Listen here for podcast with Nancy Weinman of Weinman Architectural Services

I started following Nancy Weinman when I was looking to expand my Arizona connections. I have been licensed in Arizona for almost three years now and I was looking for a new mentor to foster opportunities in the area. I have always liked Arizona's natural features and the desert inspiration, and I want to start developing my own projects as well as working on residential and commercial projects in the Phoenix Scottsdale area. I have been volunteering at Taliesin West in the Youth programs and have been visiting the area for years, but was looking for something else.

Nancy S. Weinman is the owner and principal architect at Weinman Architectural Services, a boutique architectural and design firm with offices in New York City and Sedona Arizona. She is accredited by the National Council of Architects Board with a career that has spanned over 40 years. Nancy is also a certified construction manager and served as an adjunct professor at New York University for over 7 years, where she taught several courses in construction management. During her career, Nancy has been the recipient of AIA awards, as well as an international lighting design award, and has been published by Rizzoli, Interior Design and Luxe magazines.

SO here is this year's

"I've never met a woman architect before.... Holiday Gift List 2024

#HOLIDAYGIFTLIST #HOLIDAYGIFTGUIDE

As per the last couple of years, I have asked the Facebook Group 'Mothers in Architecture" for assistance in creating the list as well as my own ideas (hey, it's my blog and podcast, right???) and I hope that you and yours will use it in purchasing and asking for the gifts that you want this year... My neighbor came over and told me what she bought herself this year (yes, she is married but we all know that sometimes loved ones need a little hint and when that doesn't work, just buy it yourself and tell them it's what you wanted and how thankful you are for them). There are a lot of gift ideas this year that require no money, just the time and effort that it takes to give a woman architect what she needs this year.

These are my picks:

Dick Blick DREAM STUDIO Collection

I volunteer here at Taliesin West when I get the chance, I have been doing some remote work with Excel that is probably not one of my better talents!  but here are some great gifts that are architectural or look to local creators for some great jewelry!

McEvoy Ranch House
by Appleton Architects LLP

McEvoy Ranch Whipped Body Butter

So, I chose this product not because it is on Oprah's List for 2024, though it is always nice to have something that Oprah endorses!  I also liked the ballerina jewelry box that she had on the list but it is $495 and I am thinking that that might be worth more than the jewelry in it! in my house, so I am going to stick to what I have. BUT the reason I picked this is that I actually worked on the house that Nan McEvoy wanted designed for her by Marc Appleton, where I was working at the time. And the project architect was Lewin Wertheimer who then went on to start his own firm and I did some work for him also. So the McEvoy Ranch was started with the house and then the Olive pressing facility and I am not sure that they knew that this retirement project would grow into such a huge enterprise but it did. And I am going to order Lavendar for myself and I will probably also order this which is very awesome.

Also from McEvoy Ranch:

I am not that fond of flavored olive oils but my friend Lorie Mariano who is the most awesome pastry chef ever, got me some as a gift for staying at one of my friends houses with me, I am not the generous gift giver tho I do give until I never receive and then I don't give anymore, lol!!!!

McEvoy Ranch Olive Pourer

But it is this Basil Olive Oil.

McEvoy Ranch Basil Olive Oil

This was on my friend Margarita Nielsen-Palacios, Artist + Architect Facebook Page and as a receiver of some really bad dishtowels from this place every year for several years, I can attest that I would have much rather had some of my friends' art....

so i have put the Womb chair in previous gift lists and I do like it but I also have seen and sat in this IKEA Knock-off but not a complete knock-off and for the price it is a pretty good deal because it actually is a little more comfortable because it has more padding and it is not as hard as the original. so in the name of thrift and economy and  "architects moms who have no money for thousands of dollars chairs", give this a try!

Set of Black Stacking Dinnerware for for $127 OBO

Ebay: Deals on Vintage Heller Massimo Vignelli Stacking Dinnerware

In the name of savings this season, I collect Fiestaware as well as my own china pattern and there are great deals on Ebay for a fraction of the price of what you would pay for a new one even though, literally they have been rarely used.

AND I also have a set of these dishes if anyone wants to purchase them from my MGH Boutique Facebook Marketplace... just don't ask me a million questions and I will deeply discount them for you ;)

Suggestions from the Facebook "Mothers in Architecture" group:

I post this as prompt for gift ideas:

It’s that time of year where I’m doing the “I’ve never met a woman architect before…”
”Holiday Gift List”
So what do we want to put on it this year????
Edit: Drop the link to purchase, in your comments!

Sarah Boardman she has a blog and podcast and tons of cool gigs. Every year she puts out a great list of Christmas items. Some of our comments are jokes. But the list is real.

I guess I should have told people to post a link..... we are trying to not do amazon or walmart, trying to link directly to the maker/mfr.

Belle Chen Taylor suggested a separate Architecture Gift list from mine as some ideas and I did look at it and this was one of the products that I saw on that list (obviously I do not like to take from other people's gift lists... and with most gift lists, I really don't like the suggestions... Like I really don't think you should give anyone a water bottle or a candle this year... and if you do feel the need to do that, I can send you about 50 that I have in my house....

I am not typically into "tech gadgets", I am into "Gizmos" like the ones that Tom Kundig designs and I loved his saying when one of his clients asked him what a Gizmo would cost and he told him "about $150k" But this one is a combo cell charger and coffee warmer and looks nice and doesn't have a product advertised on it.

Listen to that podcast with Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig here:
and see the blog here:

Olga Lysenko:
Xena steel toed discharge rated work boots

Whitney Ford:
Hard Hat

Jenny Edwards:
Micron Pens
(Great Stocking Stuffers!)

Jessica Impson:
Chiropractic visits and a spa day, more of my favorite pens. Or the new Lamy Harry Potter pen

Courtney Laflin, Elena Chetana Honig Juarez , Elsa Contreras , Amber Perry and Andrea Peterson, Leila Sh and I all participated in a discussion on Housecleaning and Household Appliances, Personal Chef and a Stunt Double as Holiday gifts, Elena thought receiving a wood stove or a fireplace as a gift would be pretty cool and I said yes, a wood stove or fireplace would be a pretty good gift, an inexpensive gas oven range is not (says me)
Andrea Peterson said she liked the robot vacuum and electric/scrub mop.
I also brought up my opinion that housekeeping and household cleaning and appliances should be taken out of the household budget and not gifts for the "woman of the house"

what i got when i googled
 "hot guy housecleaning business"
apparently there is only one and it is in Singapore,
imagine that???

I have had someone clean my house before and t was a person I knew personally or it was my friend's person so I would recommend going to a person who is local and it is their own business because they will get all of the money, hey! it is a business!!!!!
The next thing would be looking for a national or local service that is bonded, etc.

but I do tatally agree with this appliance suggested by
Angela Perez:
A nice espresso machine
I had the best coffee ever in an office before when I visited the office of PAU and I think it was a Miele that was built into their office kitchen/lunchroom

But this one is ranked #1 on one of the lists of best espresso machines and the price is very reasonable and being that a lot of us bought espresso machines many years ago and have a few but don't have anyoe who actually wants to make one, let's start with this.....

Sarah Hardwick
Passing my NCIDQ and a mop vacuum robot! I will take all the help I can get to keep the house feeling calm while I try and study with a 3 year year old.

Gur Kaur Riedel and Eva Cranky Pantz
"A clone of myself :) Ok seriously? Just passing these ARE exams!"

A Lot of Massage, Spa Day and Chiropractic Requests!!!!!
I am not into getting massages from people that i don't know and I know there are a lot of good ones out there if you know of someone locally but I have heard that Massage Envy as a chain and also this chain are good ones to use:

Reina Lopstain
Massage

Sandra Leigh Lester:
A vertical mouse, a hot pack, pack of decaf tea, compression gloves and a gift certificate for a massage

Claire Ueltschey Walpole:
The Fair Play book and cards. And a partner willing to go all in with me.

Ambia Aguirre:
Architecture books related to our office niche architecture, Unique Sketching paper, maybe charcoal or watercolors. Something to promote more creativity with my little bit of free time.

Sarah Davey Kleiner:
Books on Real Estate Development

Wendy Klepcyk:
Blood pressure meds

Michele Grace Hottel It's a note-taking device. This is the newest version. I have the previous version.
I use it to take meeting notes, meal plan. grocery lists (which I can open from my phone) sketch. Mark up PDFs....you name it. It's better than a iPad because it actually feels like paper and pen.

Ok, trying to think of something for me.
A well fitting wardrobe that is classic, professional and comfortable. Probably would require a tailor as I am a tall woman and finding clothes is not an easy task.
Wardrobe needs to include casual yet put together looks for school pick-up/drop off and events

And I think this is my favorite sentiment.....
